Digitally enhanced planning and building of infrastructure projects 4.0

The congress Digitally enhanced planning and building of infrastructure projects 4.0 took place on the 13th and 14th of September in Giessen. The two day event with presentations and workshops was organized for the fourth time by the THM Institute and the 5D Institute with the support of the German Railways. In cooperation with planning and contractor companies, as well as leading software companies, one question was the center of discussion: What is the status of the implementation of the phased plan for digital planning and construction of the BMVI (Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure) in practice? With the motto of "Build digital before building in reality!" the BMVI presented its phased plan for digital planning and construction in December 2015. It anticipates introducing the Building Information Model (BIM) method in three phases, with testing, research, and as a standard for federal transport infrastructure projects in the end of 2020.

In the specialist presentations, representatives of the German Railway and the BMVI reported on the application of BIM methodology in current projects, as well as the status of the implementation of the phased plan for digital planning and construction. In their practical experience reports, construction firms showed how BIM changed and influenced the processes on construction sites. In technological presentations and during workshops, the software providers demonstrated how it is possible to link the digital and the real worlds with each other.

During the two-day event, A+S had the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues in an atmosphere of partnership, as well as to present our own developments in the field of BIM software solutions to the specialist audience in attendance.
