ETCS planning in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Digital ETCS planning in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is considered to be particularly demanding and complex. However, with suitable software, this challenge is manageable and can even lead to increased productivity. The main focus here is on the cross-system workflow, which includes surveying and routing, planning the route equipment and checking and coordinating the overall model.
Our colleague Jens Bartnitzek joined forces with Volker Uminski from WSP and Wahid F. from IB&T Software GmbH to take a closer look at this topic. In a joint article published in the 01/23 issue of Eisenbahningenieur, they looked at digital ETCS planning in the context of BIM.
The article highlights the challenges of implementing ETCS planning in the context of BIM. In particular, the advantages of a cross-system workflow are emphasized, which enables smooth collaboration between the various specialist areas. The importance of suitable software and checking and coordination in the overall model are also discussed.
The publication of this article in Eisenbahningenieur helps to raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of digital ETCS planning in the context of BIM. At the same time, it shows how effective cooperation between the specialist departments involved and the use of suitable software can enable the successful implementation of the project.
