International Summer School 2023

On 24.08.2023 we took part in the International Summer School of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) in Bergisch Gladbach. This event was part of the project SFB/TRR 339 - "Digital Twin Road", a large-scale project funded by the DFG between the Technical University of Dresden and RWTH Aachen University. The main objective of this project is interdisciplinary basic research into the development of the "digital twin road".

The Summer School, which took place from 21 to 25 August 2023, attracted scientists from within the project, BASt employees and 20 international academics, including Master's students, doctoral students, postdocs and professors. Expert presentations from science and industry offered a wide range of perspectives on the topic of the digital twin. Our Managing Director, Dr. Veit Appelt, was one of the speakers and spoke about the use of the digital twin in parametric road planning. This presentation was followed by a lively discussion, stimulated by the President of BASt, Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Markus Oeser.

Guided tours of the BASt test facilities and the duraBASt demonstration area were offered to ensure that the content was conveyed in a practical manner. Participants had the opportunity to contribute their own ideas and skills in practical workshops.
