OPENBIM FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT MANAGEMENT ON THE A7
A+S, together with VIA IMC/Eurovia, won the BIM Champions 2021 award in the Construction Execution category for the project “Use of openBIM in infrastructure project management for the A7”.
The A7 federal highway is the longest highway in Germany and one of the most important north-south connections between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The A7 highway project comprises the six-lane expansion of a four-lane section over a total length of 29 kilometers as well as the operation and maintenance of the project route over a period of 30 years.
In addition to the expansion of the A7 by the end of 2021, the infrastructure project also includes 170 structures, including 2 major bridges, 9 junctions, 12 parking and toilet facilities and 2 refueling and rest areas as well as around 40,000 square meters of noise barriers and embankments. In addition, there are rainwater retention basins and drainage pipes, as well as environmental protection and landscaping measures.
The A7 projected consisted of a large number of different project partners, which is why openBIM was the only promising methodology for collaborative project management. The decisive factor for the introduction of BIM on the construction site was the unsatisfactory monetary, time, and organizational project results in the early phases of the project.
The project was set up and coordinated in the KorFin® BIM platform. In addition to exciting BIM use cases, the focus was on handling the construction site completely digitally. The team achieved this perfectly.
